Commercial Extension for Trenchers Restaurant, Whitby
Trenchers Restaurant is a renowned fish and chip restaurant and takeaway based in the heart of the historic and bustling North Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby. Established in 1980, the multi-award-winning eatery required an extension to the existing premises to accommodate Trenchers’ growing customer base.
Operating as the main contractor for this exciting project, Lambert constructed a large extension at the rear of the building, creating a bright, airy and inviting space where diners could sit and enjoy Trenchers’ acclaimed locally-sourced seafood. This project also involved re-landscaping the garden, transforming the outdoor space into a patio area with an attractive walled garden that could accommodate outdoor seating.
The team had to overcome some challenges throughout the project; the restaurant is based on a busy street and there was a narrow access point to get to the garden area, which meant the transportation of machinery and materials needed to be carefully planned. As the restaurant was built on a harbour, 20-meter-deep piles needed to be installed as a foundation to support the extension project.
Once the construction of the extension was complete, our partners, Q Interiors, got to work on designing the space. Opting for a traditional minimalist aesthetic, the new area was decorated with Tiffany-style light fixtures, button-back fixed booth seating, and baltic brown marble table tops.
